Spain's Master of Couture Lingerie
A Barcelona Visionary (1962)
Andres Sarda founded his eponymous brand in Barcelona in 1962 with an ambition that was revolutionary for its time: to treat lingerie with the same creative seriousness as haute couture. While Spanish fashion was still largely defined by conservative traditions, Sarda envisioned lingerie as a form of artistic expression — as worthy of runway presentation as any evening gown.
Sarda's early collections challenged the prevailing notion that Spanish lingerie should be modest and functional. He introduced bold colors, dramatic silhouettes, and avant-garde design elements drawn from fine art and architecture. Barcelona's Modernist heritage — the city of Gaudi, Miro, and Dali — was ever-present in his approach.
The Runway Pioneer
Andres Sarda became one of the first lingerie brands in the world to present collections on the runway, elevating intimate apparel to the status of fashion event. The brand's shows at Madrid Fashion Week and Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week became must-see spectacles, featuring theatrical staging, elaborate choreography, and designs that blurred the boundary between lingerie and eveningwear.
Generational Continuity
When Andres Sarda's daughter, Nuria Sarda, took over creative direction, the brand evolved while maintaining its couture DNA. Nuria brought contemporary sensibility and an emphasis on female empowerment to her father's tradition of theatrical glamour. Under her leadership, the brand embraced diverse body types and modernized its aesthetic without abandoning the dramatic flair that defined it.
Mediterranean Glamour
The brand's aesthetic is unmistakably Mediterranean — warm, sensual, dramatic, and unafraid of beauty. Sarda's collections draw from Spanish artistic traditions: the intensity of flamenco, the sensuality of Spanish painting, the architectural drama of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. Each piece is designed to make the wearer feel like the protagonist of her own story.
