Fleur du Mal

Modern sensuality from New York

New York-based luxury lingerie inspired by Charles Baudelaire. Clean lines, bold details, modern sensuality.

Baudelaire's Flowers in New York Lace

Literary Luxury (2012)

Fleur du Mal was founded in 2012 in New York by Jennifer Zuccarini, a Canadian-born lingerie veteran who had previously co-founded the luxury intimates brand Kiki de Montparnasse. The brand's name — "Flowers of Evil" — came from Charles Baudelaire's landmark 1857 poetry collection "Les Fleurs du Mal," a work that explored beauty in darkness, desire in transgression, and art in the forbidden.

The literary reference was not mere branding. Zuccarini designed lingerie that embodied Baudelaire's aesthetic: beauty with an edge, elegance with a whisper of danger, luxury that didn't shy from the darker notes of desire. Each collection channeled the poet's conviction that the most compelling beauty contains shadows.

Modern Sensuality

Fleur du Mal's design language was distinctive: clean, architectural lines combined with sensual details. Structured bodysuits paired with sheer panels. Geometric lace set against liquid silk. The tension between control and exposure — between what was revealed and what was concealed — was the brand's signature dynamic.

The brand used luxury materials exclusively: French Leavers lace, Italian silk, and custom-developed fabrics. Construction was meticulous, with each piece reflecting the standards of the New York atelier where designs were finalized.

Celebrity and Cultural Presence

Fleur du Mal built visibility through organic celebrity adoption and strategic editorial placements. The brand's pieces appeared on red carpets, in fashion editorials, and on social media feeds of fashion-forward women who appreciated lingerie that was intellectually as well as aesthetically engaging.

The Outerwear Connection

The brand deliberately designed many pieces to function as outerwear — bodysuits that could anchor an evening look, bralettes designed to layer under blazers. This versatility reflected Fleur du Mal's understanding that modern women wanted lingerie that worked across contexts.
