Caro Cuore is an Argentine lingerie and homewear brand that sells bras, briefs, bodysuits, sleepwear and swimwear through its own stores and web shop in Argentina. Its exact founding date is not documented in any source available for this entry, but the brand was well established by the late 1980s, when a lingerie contract with Caro Cuore helped launch one of the country's best-known models.
An Italian name in Buenos Aires
The name is Italian for "dear heart," a natural choice in a country where a large share of the population descends from Italian immigrants and where Italian words carry an air of fashion. The brand's web shop presents it today under the line "Lencería Femenina & Homewear," women's lingerie and homewear.
That pairing of lingerie with homewear shapes the whole store. Pajamas, robes and loungewear hang next to the bras, a mix shared by large Latin American lingerie makers such as Colombia's Leonisa.
The girl with short hair
The clearest window into the brand's past comes from the careers of the models it hired. Spanish Wikipedia's biography of Araceli González records that, after her 1987 campaign for the hair salon chain Llongueras, she won a contract with "the lingerie manufacturer Caro Cuore" and became known as "La chica del pelito corto," the girl with short hair. González went on to become one of Argentina's most famous models and actresses, and the Caro Cuore work sits near the start of that career.
Other names followed. Nicole Neumann's early jobs included advertising for Caro Cuore, according to her Wikipedia biography, and Pía Slapka walked in a Caro Cuore fashion show in 2000, at 17. The pattern is consistent. For more than a decade the brand used young models on the way up, which is how a mass-market lingerie label builds name recognition in a market of Argentina's size.
What the brand sells now
The current range is broad. The women's line covers bras, briefs, bodysuits, sleepwear, robes and loungewear, a beach line of bikinis, with tops and matching bikini bottoms, and one-pieces, and activewear tops and bottoms. Hosiery, footwear and fragrances round out the offer.
Two spin-off lines extend the name. CaroUomo, from the Italian for man, sells men's boxers, sleepwear and accessories. MiniCuore is a children's collection. Few lingerie labels stretch this far, and the spread suggests a brand that sees itself as a family clothing store organized around underwear and sleep.
Fragrance under license
The fragrances are not made in house. According to Spanish Wikipedia, Cannon Puntana S.A., the fragrance company of Argentina's Grupo Sutton Dabbah, founded in 1970, manufactures its own perfumes and also produces the fragrances of several fashion brands, Caro Cuore among them. That puts Caro Cuore in a group of Argentine labels with licensed scents, a sign of how familiar its name is to local shoppers.
Stores and reach
Caro Cuore sells through physical stores, listed on its website as "Locales," and through an online store priced in Argentine pesos with delivery across the country, including the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The storefront is labeled Caro Cuore AR, and there is no sign of a significant presence outside Argentina.
