Jade Swim

Jade Swim is a minimalist swimwear brand started in New York by Brittany Kozerski, a former fashion editor and stylist at Marie Claire. Most retailer profiles date the launch to 2016; one 2021 press roundup gives 2017. The label describes itself as "Founded in NYC, Designed in Palm Beach, Made in California", and that three-city tagline is a fair summary of its short history.

It is a small, founder-led business with a narrow idea: swimwear plain enough to wear as clothing.

A Marie Claire side project

Kozerski did not leave magazines to start the brand. She built Jade Swim as a side business while still working full time at Marie Claire, and has talked in interviews about the sacrifices of running both, and about the point at which she left the magazine to run the label full time.

The editorial background shows in the product. Kozerski saw a gap for versatile swimwear, and her answer was a short range of solid-colored pieces with clean lines and one or two design details, cut so a bikini top could pass as a bra top under a jacket and a one-piece could work as a bodysuit.

Founded in New York, made in California

Although the brand is often filed as a Los Angeles label, that is where it is made rather than where it began. Production takes place in Los Angeles, the main hub of American swimwear manufacturing. The design base later moved to Palm Beach, Florida.

The four Jade Swim collections

Jade Swim organizes its range into named lines rather than seasonal drops. Its site groups pieces into four: Micro, Ring, Contrast and Ribbed. The names describe the idea plainly. Ring pieces use a single metal ring as the one decorative detail, Ribbed pieces swap flat Lycra for a textured knit, and Micro covers the smallest shapes. New colors arrive over time, but the core silhouettes are carried forward rather than replaced. On the brand's own site, tops and bottoms sell at around 90 to 112 dollars each and one-pieces at about 200 dollars, which places it in the premium tier alongside labels sold at Mytheresa and Goop, both of which stock it.

Design for more than the beach

The brand's stated aim is versatility, "from day to night, from beach to city, as swim or ready-to-wear". In practice that means high-cut bikini bottoms, simple scoop and square necklines, and tops with enough structure to be worn with trousers. It sits in the same space as Matteau and Solid & Striped, two other labels that sell restraint rather than decoration.

A women-led supply chain

Jade Swim's sustainability claims are modest and specific, which makes them easier to check than most. A 2021 roundup of female-founded swimwear brands described it as a 100 percent women-led company, from the owner and the factory owner to the publicist and warehouse team. It was listed as certified carbon neutral, a member of 1% for the Planet, and a partner of Eden Reforestation Projects, with more than 4,000 trees planted that year. The same piece noted that the brand is Black-owned and female-owned, still a small minority among premium swimwear labels.

The brand's own pages are vaguer, referring to "conscious production" without naming fabric mills or certifications. That gap is common in small swimwear businesses, where the fabric is usually bought from a mill rather than developed in-house.

Where it stands

Kozerski's name now appears as Brittany Kozerski Freeney in some press. The business remains small and direct: the website ships same-day on orders placed by noon Eastern time and offers free exchanges in the United States. The idea has not changed since the first collection, a handful of well-cut solid swimsuits that look as good off the beach as on it, made by a short chain of women in Los Angeles.
