When Shakira took the stage for the 2026 World Cup final halftime show, she did so in a custom Roberto Cavalli design that sparkled with more than 200,000 Swarovski crystals. The two-piece set, worn at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, featured the label's Ray of Sunset print in vivid pink and yellow. According to Roberto Cavalli's Instagram, the late designer's Ray of Gold motif inspired the look, which included a plunging crisscross neckline bodysuit with side cutouts and a skirt shaped using the moulage draping technique.
Every inch of the outfit was hand-embroidered with fringe satin chiffon strips, and the bodysuit alone required more than 120 hours of embroidery work. Creative director Fausto Puglisi designed the piece, which took two weeks to complete. The "Hips Don't Lie" singer's performance was a highlight of the halftime show, but she also appeared at the tournament's opening ceremony in Mexico City last June, where she sang "Dai Dai" with Burna Boy. For that show, she wore a bold yellow ensemble and white platform R13 sneakers with matching yellow laces.
The World Cup final saw Spain, reigning European champions, defeat Argentina, the defending World Cup winners, at the stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The halftime show was the first in FIFA history, curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay and benefiting the Global Citizen Education Fund. Alongside Shakira, the lineup included Justin Bieber, Madonna, and BTS. Post Malone headlined the pre-match closing ceremony, while Jennifer Hudson performed the national anthem.
