As the mercury rises, so does the temperature of fashion discourse. Fabletics, the activewear juggernaut co-founded by Kate Hudson in 2013, has unveiled its latest collaboration with Lizzo’s shapewear line, Yitty. This new swimwear collection—available now—marks a provocative chapter in the long, often restrictive history of lingerie and swimwear. Where Victorian-era “bathing machines” once hid the female form under layers of wool and flannel, Lizzo’s designs embrace the body with unapologetic joy.

The collection, starring Lizzo herself, offers over 25 styles from XS to 6X, blending the structural ingenuity of modern shapewear with the freedom of swim. “We took everything we’ve perfected in shapewear and brought it into swim,” Lizzo notes, referencing Yitty’s roots in the $2.3 billion shapewear market—a category revolutionized by Spanx in the early 2000s, but whose lineage traces back to the whalebone corsets of the 19th century. Strategic paneling, adjustable straps, and mesh detailing provide contour without constraint, echoing the shift from “suffocating” to “supportive” that has defined lingerie’s evolution.

Fabletics’ vice president of women’s design, Kate Williams, describes the line as “bright, bold, sexy and fun”—a sentiment that aligns with Yitty’s mission to democratize shapewear. Since its launch in 2022, Yitty has expanded into swimwear and stretch denim, challenging the industry’s narrow definitions of desirability. For the Lingerie Museum, this collection is more than a seasonal drop; it’s a testament to how far we’ve come from the days when a swimsuit was a cage of whalebone and shame. Today, it’s a canvas for confidence—snatched, glamorous, and entirely your own.
