The lace camisole, an undergarment with roots in the 19th century, has become fall 2026's going-out top of choice among celebrities.
Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa, Karlie Kloss and Hailey Bieber have all been photographed in lace camis at fashion shows, industry events and around the city, answering the question of what to wear with jeans.
The modern camisole emerged in the 19th century as underwear worn over corsets and petticoats, trimmed with intricate lace by the late 1800s and early 1900s. That association made lace synonymous with lingerie through the 20th century, until 90s stars brought lace-trimmed camisoles and slip dresses onto red carpets and city streets.
Today's versions differ from the layered styles of the aughts. They come in flowy or A-line silhouettes inspired by the 1920s and 1990s Victoria's Secret, plus modern asymmetrical cuts, mostly in satin or silk and in colors from pastels to neons.
Dua Lipa and Hailey Bieber pair theirs with slouchy low-slung jeans, while Kendall Jenner wears hers with wide-leg trousers and a pashmina over her shoulder.
