Just in time for Mother’s Day, Hill House Home has joined forces with American Girl, a collaboration that, at first glance, seems worlds apart from the Lingerie Museum’s domain. Yet, look closer: the partnership’s romantic prints and layered silhouettes echo a lineage of intimate apparel that has long blurred the lines between childhood dress-up and adult femininity. American Girl, founded in 1986, built its legacy on historical dolls like Felicity and Addy, each clad in meticulously researched costumes—corsets, petticoats, and chemises that mirrored the undergarments of their eras. Hill House Home, known for its wildly popular “Nap Dress” (a frock that feels as much like a nightgown as a day dress), taps into that same nostalgic intimacy, reimagining those doll-era prints for women, children, and dolls alike. The collection, dropping May 5, spans 10 pieces, including the Ellie Nap Dress and Scarlett Midi Nap, available in sizes from XXXS to 4XL and girls’ 2 to 12 years. Founder Nell Diamond notes her daughter Willow’s doll obsession fueled the project, but the deeper story is one of generational transmission—of how we learn the codes of dressing, from doll’s corsets to adult lingerie. This is not just a children’s brand crossover; it’s a reminder that the most personal garments, from a Victorian chemise to a modern nap dress, carry the weight of memory.
