In an era where the atelier meets the algorithm, fashion technology firm Alvanon has unveiled a solution that speaks directly to the tension between handcraft and hologram. Previewed in Milan, the Specialty Catwalk Series offers what the company calls the first “phygital” sizing system for luxury fashion—pairing physical mannequins with digital avatars generated from global body scan data specific to couture runways. Available for order starting May 18, it promises designers a seamless workflow between tangible draping and virtual prototyping.

For the Lingerie Museum, this innovation resonates with a deeper historical thread. Since the 19th century, when corset makers first standardized measurements using adjustable forms, the pursuit of the “ideal” body has shaped intimate apparel. Alvanon’s approach—anchored in data rather than aesthetics—echoes the shift from rigid Victorian silhouettes to the inclusive, tech-driven fit of modern lingerie. Brands like Armani, present at the Milan preview alongside partner D-house Laboratorio Urbano, now have a tool that honors the precision of expert craftspeople while embracing digital efficiency.

“Luxury brands need a foundational body standard that supports the unique attention to detail brought by expert craftspeople,” noted Sara Canali, Alvanon’s market development director. By reducing reliance on fit models and physical prototypes, this series offers creative flexibility without sacrificing the meticulous fit that defines both high fashion and fine lingerie. In a world where the boundary between fabric and code blurs, Alvanon ensures that the body—in all its physical and digital forms—remains the ultimate muse.
