Underwire is technically a construction feature, not a silhouette, but it's common enough as a labeling category that we list it separately. An underwire bra has a curved wire (metal, plastic, or resin) sewn into a channel at the bottom of each cup. The wire lifts and separates the breasts and defines the cup's lower edge.
Most T-shirt, push-up, plunge, balconette, demi, and full cup bras have underwires. This class is the catch-all for "wired bra where the silhouette isn't otherwise obvious from the photo."
How to Identify
- Visible curved wire outline at the bottom of each cup
- Rigid feel at the cup base even in soft fabrics
