Gorteks

Gorteks is a Polish maker and online seller of women's lingerie based in Białystok, in the northeast of the country. The company says it has been in business for more than 28 years, which puts its start in the 1990s, though it does not give a founding date or name its founders on its shop. It describes itself as a producer of women's underwear and sells bras, briefs, shapewear, corsets, bodysuits, sleepwear and hosiery directly to customers through its website.

A Białystok address

The company's registered shop address is Al. Jana Pawła II 79C in Białystok, the largest city of Poland's northeast, close to the Belarusian border. Gorteks is not the only lingerie name in town. MAT Lingerie, another Polish maker with about three decades in the trade, lists its address elsewhere in the same city. Two producers with similar histories, similar product mixes and the same city is a small pattern, but a telling one. Much of Polish lingerie is made by mid-sized firms like these rather than by a few national giants.

Gorteks does not publish the story of how it started, who founded it or where its sewing rooms are. What it does publish is the range, and the range is large.

The Gorteks catalog

That is the profile of a maker selling fit and range to ordinary shoppers rather than chasing fashion editors. It sits in the same broad domestic market as Gorsenia and Ava, two other Polish lingerie names with wide size ranges at mid-market prices.

Selling direct

The company's own site is now its main window. It promises dispatch within 24 hours, free delivery in Poland on orders above 70 zloty, simple returns and shipping to a number of other European countries. It runs frequent discount codes and a newsletter voucher, and it keeps accounts on the main social platforms, including TikTok and Pinterest.

Selling this way lets a maker skip the wholesaler and set its own prices and photography. For a firm that has been sewing lingerie since the 1990s, the website is the newest of its sales channels, not the reason it exists.

A claim to leadership

On its homepage Gorteks calls itself a leader in the Polish women's lingerie market. The company offers no sales figures to support the claim, and no independent ranking was found to confirm or refute it, so it is reported here as the company's own description. What can be said is that it has stayed in business for close to three decades in a crowded domestic market, and that its catalog is wide enough to dress a customer from bra to tights.

One oddity for researchers: Gorteks trades at gorteks.com.pl. The shorter gorteks.pl domain is registered and points at a hosting server, but it did not answer as a working shop when checked. Anyone looking up the brand should use the .com.pl address, where the current catalog and contact details live.
