Luna Swimwear started as a one-woman bedroom business in the early 2020s: a Dutch bikini and swimsuit label founded by a designer named Isa, who began it at the age of 21 and still designs every print and fit herself. It sells online, mainly to shoppers in the Netherlands and Belgium, and says its suits are made from recycled materials under fair working conditions. The range is small and cheerful: bralette and triangle tops, classic bottoms and a few one-pieces, in prints with names like Candy Stripes and Bronze Polka.
A bedroom start-up
The brand's own account is short and personal. Isa started Luna about three years before the museum read the site, at 21, working from her bedroom. She designs the collection herself, from the prints down to the fits. The site names her only by first name, and the museum follows suit.
The bedroom start-up is a familiar pattern in European swimwear of the last decade. Small-batch production, print-on-demand fabric and social media marketing have made it possible for one person to design a bikini, have it made in a short run, photograph it and sell it, without a shop, a wholesaler or a large investment. Most such labels stay small. Luna's customer reviews, more than 150 of them with an average of 4.9 out of 5 on its own site, suggest it has found a steady base.
The brand describes its mood as inspired by "sunshine, freedom and good energy." That is visible in the color cards: stripes, polka dots and warm solids, nothing dark or severe.
Recycled fabric, fair production
Luna states that its swimwear is made from "high-quality recycled materials" and produced under fair conditions. The site does not name the specific yarn, the mill or the country of production on the pages the museum read, so this entry cannot say whether the fabric is a branded regenerated nylon or a generic recycled polyester, or where the suits are sewn.
Recycled swim fabric is now common among small European labels. It usually means nylon or polyester spun partly from reclaimed waste, such as fishing nets or post-consumer plastic, blended with elastane. It performs much like virgin fiber in chlorine and salt water. The claim is worth something, but it is worth more when a brand names its supplier, and Luna does not yet do so publicly.
The shapes in the range
Luna builds its collection around separates.
Tops
The tops include bralette styles, soft wide-band tops with no wire that sit like a cropped sports top, and triangle tops, the classic two-cup bikini with adjustable coverage. The site's filters also list underwire tops among the available styles, the choice for fuller busts that need lift in the water. The museum's comparison of bralette and triangle bra shapes applies to swim tops as much as to lingerie.
Bottoms and one-pieces
The bottoms are described as classic cuts, offered in the same prints as the tops so they can be paired or mixed. One-piece swimsuits complete the range. Sizes run from XS to XL.
Prints and prices
The print names give the collection its character. At the time the museum looked, the range included Candy Stripes, Sunny Polka, Berries & Cream, Bronze Polka, Espresso, Lilac Lagoon, Starry Night and Sunny Days, along with solids and textured fabrics.
Prices are modest. During an end-of-summer sale, bralette tops were reduced from 34.95 to 21.95 euros, classic bottoms from about 32 euros to between 18.95 and 21.95, and one-pieces from 54.95 euros to around 41 to 43. Gift cards start at 30 euros. Shipping is free in the Netherlands above 75 euros, returns are accepted within 14 days, and checkout includes iDEAL, the Dutch bank-transfer system, alongside PayPal and cards.
What is not confirmed
Luna does not publish a founding year, a city or a company address on the pages the museum read, and the museum did not find a registry record it could open without identification. The Netherlands is confirmed by the brand's own market, pricing and payment options, and matches the country already in the museum's records. The archive holds 15 product records under Luna Swimwear, kept private like every product record on this site.
