Oye Swimwear is a Turkish swimwear label founded by the Istanbul-born designer Ayça Sadıkoğlu, which makes its bikinis, one-pieces and resort wear by hand in Istanbul. It sells through its own website and through department stores and online retailers in Turkey, the Gulf, Europe and the United States, among them Beymen, Vakko, Ounass, Revolve and Shopbop. The brand describes its style as "confident minimalism," and its range runs from black and white basics to a bridal collection. Its founding year is not stated on its own pages and could not be confirmed.
Ayça Sadıkoğlu's route into swimwear
The founder's background is not the usual one for a swim designer. According to the brand, Sadıkoğlu studied Art History and Film and Media Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore before returning to Istanbul, and she credits travel and culture as the sources of her design ideas. There is no mention of a fashion school or an apprenticeship at another house. The brand presents her as a designer with an editor's eye rather than a technician's training.
That shows in how Oye talks about its clothes. The language is about structure, proportion and restraint, "a dialogue between structure and sensuality," in the brand's words, and about pieces that "move effortlessly from the beach to the city." The swimsuit is treated as a garment to wear with a skirt or wide trousers at lunch, not only as something to swim in.
Handmade in Istanbul
The production claim is short and specific: Oye says its pieces are handcrafted in Istanbul. That fits the city's role in the garment trade. Istanbul and the surrounding Marmara region hold one of Europe's largest concentrations of textile and apparel workshops, with deep experience in stretch fabrics, swimwear and lingerie for both local labels and European brands. A small designer label there can work with skilled cut-and-sew ateliers a short drive from its studio, which is far harder in most Western European capitals.
The brand does not name its workshops or fabric suppliers, and it publishes no figures on output or staff.
What Oye makes
The collections on the site are grouped by theme rather than by garment. The Signature Collection holds the house shapes. Black and White is exactly that, a monochrome capsule. Resort Wear adds cover-up dresses and separates meant for the walk from the beach club to dinner. A Bridal collection, in white and ivory, targets honeymoon and wedding-week dressing, a niche that few swim labels address directly. New lines arrive by season.
The pieces themselves are the familiar swim garments, one-pieces, bandeau and bikini tops, bikini bottoms, treated with the restraint the brand keeps describing. The monochrome capsule and the bridal whites suggest a label that puts cut ahead of print.
Oye Swimwear's stockists
The retailer list is the clearest measure of the brand's reach. At home it is carried by Beymen and Vakko, Turkey's two leading luxury department store groups, which is a mark of acceptance in the local market. Abroad it appears at Ounass in the Gulf, at Revolve and Shopbop in the United States, and at a string of independent swim boutiques. That mix puts Oye in the designer-swim bracket occupied by labels such as Zimmermann at the more expensive end and Matteau on the minimalist side.
It also says something about Turkish fashion. Istanbul has long made swimwear for other people's labels. Oye is one of a group of local designer brands now selling under their own names on the same international platforms, and handmade in the same city where much of the market's swimwear is already sewn.
