Organic Cotton for the People

Boulder Idealism (2009)

Pact was founded in 2009 in Boulder, Colorado — a city whose culture of environmental activism and outdoor living made it a natural birthplace for a brand built on organic cotton and fair trade principles. Founder Brendan Synnott, a serial entrepreneur with experience in sustainable food brands, applied the same philosophy to clothing: the essentials that touch your body every day should be made from the cleanest, most responsibly produced materials possible.

The name "Pact" suggested a mutual agreement — between the brand and its customers, between consumers and the planet. Buy these basics, and know that every step of their creation respected both people and environment.

Fair Trade Certified

Pact was one of the first underwear brands to achieve Fair Trade certification — a rigorous standard ensuring that workers throughout the supply chain received fair wages, worked in safe conditions, and had access to community development funds. The certification covered the brand's Indian manufacturing partners, where most of its organic cotton garments were produced.

The Fair Trade premium — an additional payment above the negotiated price — funded community projects chosen by workers themselves: schools, healthcare facilities, and infrastructure improvements. Every Pact purchase contributed to these community investments.

Accessible Pricing

Pact's most revolutionary act was its pricing. While most organic, Fair Trade certified basics commanded significant premiums, Pact priced its products competitively with conventional cotton alternatives. This accessibility was deliberate: Synnott believed that sustainable basics should be available to everyone, not just those who could afford premium eco-fashion.

Super Soft Organic Cotton

Pact's organic cotton underwent a special finishing process that created a fabric the brand called "super soft organic cotton." The result was basics that didn't require the usual trade-off between sustainability and comfort — they were both cleaner and softer than conventional alternatives.
