Cotton

Cotton

Natural fiber, matte, breathable, often soft jersey knit.

Cotton is the workhorse lingerie fabric for everyday wear. It's breathable, hypoallergenic, machine-washable, and comfortable — but it lacks the glamour of synthetics and the stretch of spandex blends.

In modern lingerie, pure cotton is rare; most "cotton" pieces are cotton/modal or cotton/elastane blends. Cotton jersey is used for basic bras and panties; cotton with lace trim is a common "comfortable but pretty" style.

Historically, cotton replaced linen as the standard undergarment fabric in the 19th century and dominated until synthetics took over in the 1960s.
