Mesh is a plain net fabric — a regular grid of threads with even, open holes between them. It's the simplest openwork textile and contains no decorative pattern (distinguishing it from lace, which has motifs between the holes).
In lingerie, mesh appears in three main weights: - **Power mesh**: heavier, stretchy, opaque to semi-opaque; used for shapewear and bra side panels - **Standard mesh**: light, semi-sheer, flexible; used for bralette cups and panty panels - **Sheer / English mesh**: very fine, fully sheer; used as a backing for embroidery and lace overlays
How to Identify
- Regular grid pattern of open holes
- No decorative motifs (contrast with lace)
- Uniform texture across the whole panel
- Can be matte or slightly shiny depending on the fiber
