Arun Wear

Arun Wear

Arun Wear is a swimwear and resort wear label based in Bali, Indonesia, that makes bikinis, one-pieces and beach clothing in family-owned factories on the island and sells them from its own stores in Canggu, Berawa and Padang. Much of its swimwear is cut from regenerated or recycled fibers, including ECONYL nylon. The brand does not publish a founding year. The archive holds 16 Arun Wear products.

Named for the minutes before sunrise

The brand explains its name in one line: Arun was named after "the moment before the sun fully arrives", the quiet change from night to day. In several South and Southeast Asian languages, Arun or Aruna is linked to the dawn, and Wat Arun in Bangkok is the Temple of Dawn. The label does not say which language it drew on, so we leave the etymology at its own explanation.

The name suits a brand whose customers are often on the beach early. Arun describes its clothes as designed for how women live under the sun, built around movement and travel, with swim as the anchor of each collection and resort pieces as the extension.

Bali workshops and ECONYL nylon

Production stays on the island. Arun says its garments are made in family-owned factories in Bali, where the brand oversees working conditions and quality directly and prefers long relationships with its makers to large production runs. Keeping the sewing close means the designers can check a fit or a seam on the same day, without waiting for samples to cross an ocean.

The fabric story is specific. The brand says much of its swimwear uses regenerated or recycled fibers, naming ECONYL, the regenerated nylon made from waste such as old fishing nets and carpet, along with other recycled performance fabrics. Resort pieces use cotton and linen where possible. The site mentions certified fabrics but does not name the certifying bodies, so we do not either.

Bikinis, sarongs and the villa visit

The range covers bikini bottoms and tops sold as separates, one-piece suits, cover-ups, pants and tops, plus beach hats, bags and sarongs. Collection names such as Verano, Matahari and Zoe mix Spanish, Indonesian and English; Matahari is the Indonesian word for sun. Separates are a practical choice for swim, where top and bottom sizes often differ, and buying a triangle bra style top in one size and a bottom in another solves a fit problem that a fixed set cannot.

Arun also offers what it calls a private shopping experience. A representative brings a selection to a customer's villa, a service that fits Bali's rental-villa tourism better than a mall store would.

Three stores in Canggu, Berawa and Padang

The brand lists three shops in Bali, in Padang, Canggu and Berawa, all open seven days a week. Canggu and Berawa sit side by side on the island's southwest coast, the busiest stretch for cafes, surf schools and boutiques. Beyond Bali, the label ships internationally, with regional hubs in Australia and the United States, and takes wholesale inquiries from other stores.

Packaging as a policy

Arun ships orders in reusable cotton tote bags rather than single-use plastic, and presents this as a deliberate choice meant to be reused long after delivery. It is a small detail, but in a category where every bikini usually arrives in its own polybag, it is one of the more concrete sustainability claims a swim brand can make and a customer can check.

Where Arun sits among swim labels

Bali produces a great many small swim brands, and Arun belongs to the group that sells on fit and fabric rather than prints alone. Its own copy talks about "quiet confidence" and pieces that avoid trends. Compared with a Californian label such as L*Space, it is smaller and tied to one island, with design, sewing and retail all within a short distance of each other.

The brand's footprint today is three Bali stores, an online shop, and garments sewn by local family workshops.
