Dusty rose takes pink and greys it down with a little brown. The result looks older and more sober than candy pink, which is why brands use it to sell pink to customers who would not otherwise buy it. Common trade names include old rose, rosewood and antique rose.
It is a color for lace and satin rather than plain cotton. Dusty rose lace over a matching lining gives a vintage, almost faded look, and it suits balconette bras, high-waist briefs and silk camisoles. It pairs with taupe, gold, plum and ivory.
Dusty rose is also more forgiving under clothes than bright pink, because its lower saturation reads as a skin tone on many people. The classifier's main confusions are with blush, which is paler, and mauve, which leans toward purple.
