Amore & Sorvete

Amore & Sorvete

Amore & Sorvete, also written Amore + Sorvete, is an Australian swimwear label from Western Australia, trading through Amore and Sorvete Pty Ltd, a private company whose business number has been active since June 18, 2015. Its moment of wider fame came in August 2016, when the American model Emily Ratajkowski became its spokesperson. Beyond those two facts, the public record on the brand is thin, and this entry keeps to what could be checked.

Love and ice cream

The name is a two-language pairing. "Amore" is Italian for love; "sorvete" is the Portuguese word for ice cream, the word a Brazilian would use at a beach kiosk. Put together, they set the tone of a summer brand without needing a slogan. The ampersand and the plus sign both appear in the way the label is written: the company register uses "and," while Wikipedia, in its account of Ratajkowski's career, uses "Amore + Sorvete."

The Brazilian half of the name is worth noticing. Brazil is the source of much of modern bikini cutting, from the small triangle top to the Brazilian and cheeky bottoms that leave more of the seat uncovered than a classic brief. Australian swim labels have borrowed heavily from that vocabulary for decades, and a name that nods to Brazil signals a customer who wants a beach cut rather than a lap-swimming suit. The museum has not confirmed the specific cuts Amore & Sorvete produced, so this is context, not a claim about its range.

A Perth company

The company's registration is the most solid record. Amore and Sorvete Pty Ltd is an Australian private company, and its listing on the national business register gives its main business location as Western Australia, postcode 6012, which lies in Perth's western suburbs near the coast. Its business number dates from June 18, 2015, a reasonable marker for when the label became a formal business, though not proof of when the first suits were sold.

The same register shows that the company was not registered for the goods and services tax when the record was last updated in April 2025. Australian businesses must register for that tax once turnover reaches 75,000 Australian dollars a year, so the listing suggests a business trading below that level at the time, or not trading actively. The museum draws no further conclusion from it.

The Ratajkowski campaign

In August 2016, Emily Ratajkowski became the spokesperson for the brand, according to Wikipedia's account of her career. At the time she was one of the most photographed models in the world, and a small Perth label hiring her as its face was an unusually ambitious move. It was the kind of campaign that tends to send a brand's name around the world for a season.

There is a second reason the episode matters for the history of swimwear. Fifteen months later, in November 2017, Ratajkowski launched her own swim line, Inamorata, starting with three bikini separates and three one-pieces. Amore & Sorvete is part of the background to that brand: one of the labels that used her image before she decided to sell swimwear under her own control. The museum's file on Inamorata, listed under Inamorata Woman, covers that launch in more detail.

What could not be checked

The web address amoreandsorvete.com resolves, but it refused a secure connection during research, so its content is unknown. Other likely domains, including .com.au versions, do not exist. No Wikipedia article covers the brand itself, and the museum found no founder statement it could read. For that reason this entry names no founder, gives no product lines and makes no claim about where the garments were made.

Amore & Sorvete in the archive

The museum holds 37 products recorded under the Amore & Sorvete name, filed with the collection's other swim labels. Readers interested in Australian swimwear with a stronger public record can compare it with Monday Swimwear and Zimmermann, both of which have documented histories on this site. Amore & Sorvete's own record is shorter: a Perth company formed in 2015, a famous face in 2016, and a name that pairs love with ice cream.
