Calida was founded in 1941 in Sursee, a town in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland. The name — derived from the Latin word "calidus," meaning warm — signaled the brand's original mission: creating underwear and sleepwear that kept bodies comfortably warm in the Swiss climate. Over eight decades, that mission evolved into a broader philosophy: comfort as a fundamental quality of life.

The 100% Nature Initiative

Calida's most significant recent initiative has been its commitment to 100% natural and biodegradable materials across its entire product range. The "100% Nature" collection uses organic cotton that is not only grown without pesticides but processed and dyed using exclusively natural, biodegradable substances. At the end of its life, a Calida 100% Nature garment can be composted — it will fully decompose without releasing microplastics or synthetic chemicals.

This cradle-to-grave approach represents one of the most comprehensive sustainability commitments in the intimate apparel industry. While other brands addressed individual aspects of sustainability, Calida pursued a holistic vision where every element of the product lifecycle was designed for environmental harmony.
