Moliera 2

Moliera 2 is a Polish luxury fashion retailer, founded in Warsaw in 2010 and named after its first address, number 2 on Moliera Street. It sells international designer labels through boutiques in Poland and through the online store Moliera2.com, launched in 2011, and its catalog includes a women's lingerie and nightwear department. It is a store, not a lingerie maker, and the pieces filed under its name in this archive come from its shelves.

An address that became a brand

Polish Wikipedia describes the company as a joint-stock company headquartered in Warsaw and a Polish distributor of domestic and foreign clothing brands. The name needs no decoding: ulica Moliera, Molière Street, runs through central Warsaw near the Grand Theatre, and the first boutique stood at number 2. Naming a shop after its street number is an old habit of luxury retail, and here the address stuck even after the business spread well beyond it.

The company was founded in 2010. A year later, in 2011, it began selling online at Moliera2.com. Physical boutiques followed outside the capital, in Poznań, Katowice, the Baltic resort of Sopot and the mountain town of Zakopane. Polish Wikipedia counts seven stores in Poland by 2023.

Ownership and the stock market

In 2020 the Moliera 2 brand became the property of Modern Commerce S.A., and the company has been listed on NewConnect, the Warsaw Stock Exchange's market for smaller growth companies, since 2021.

Polish fashion media took notice. Polish Wikipedia records that it won the "Doskonałość Mody" (Fashion Excellence) award from the women's magazine Twój Styl across the years from 2015 to 2020.

What a luxury department store means for lingerie

Moliera 2 built its name on shoes and ready-to-wear. The labels Polish Wikipedia lists for 2023 are Balmain, Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant, Burberry, Kenzo, Amina Muaddi and Off-White. The website adds Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, Moncler, Philipp Plein, Self-Portrait, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs and the Australian label Zimmermann, along with a section for Polish designers.

Lingerie sits inside that structure as one department among many. The women's underwear section, "bielizna damska," is split into the categories a European department store would use:

• pajamas and nightwear
• bras
• bodysuits
• briefs and thongs
• tights
• socks
• robes

There are matching sections for men's and children's underwear.

The designer-house end of intimates

Stores of this kind sell lingerie the way designer houses make it. A fashion house's bra or bodysuit is usually a small, high-margin line produced by a licensee or a specialist subcontractor, sold beside handbags rather than in a fitting room. Customers buy it as a fashion piece, often in silk, satin or lace, rather than for a measured fit in an unusual band size. A store like Moliera 2 is where those garments reach a Polish buyer, which is also why its lingerie section carries robes, hosiery and pajamas next to bras.

That is the opposite end of the market from Poland's own lingerie industry, which is known for well-engineered bras in a very wide size range from makers such as Comexim. Moliera 2 is not part of that story. It imports a Western European and American luxury wardrobe and puts its intimates on the same pages.
