A G-string is the most minimal panty style. The front panel is small, and at the back there is no fabric strip at all — just a thin string or elastic cord running between the cheeks. Sometimes the side waistband is also a string rather than a band.
The name dates to 19th-century vaudeville costumes (G for "gee-string"). Modern G-strings are common as swimwear in Brazil and as a lingerie style elsewhere.
How to Identify
- Back is a cord or string, not a fabric strip
- Front panel is small
- Side waistband may also be a string
- Less fabric than a thong
